The Best of Los Angeles Dining Scene

Moonshadows

Moonshadows

Moonshadows has been a Malibu institution since the 1960s, primarily due to the sweeping views of the Pacific. On weekdays, the restaurant is popular with locals and beachgoers. On weekends, the lounge and patio fill with a glitzier crowd that’s craving nightlife. The menu found new life in 2003 with the addition of Chef Joachim Weritz. The native German infuses Asian and Mediterranean influences in contemporary California dishes like sake braised short ribs and crispy panko fried oysters with mirin-passion fruit mignonette. Managing Partner Andrea Bullo fine-tuned a 130-bottle wine list and garnered a 2007 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence."

Review Title: Bastide-Is it Worth It
A friend and I visited Bastide on a Friday evening. I know that times are difficult in the restaurant business but was amazed how slow it was there. We were there at 6 p.m. and we were probably the only ones there for at least an hour. I found the meal besides being quite expense quite disapointing. We had the prix fixe dinner with the wine pairings. The only course of the several provided which I thought was well realized was the veal couuse which was delicious. The other courses were bland or maybe too electic for me. The wines were a distinct disappointment. The restaurant provided wines from various locates, Croatia, France, Hungray but mostly they were lack luster. Of the wines we had only one would I even consider buying for my own celler. To answer my own question, it most definitely not worth it and it is quite unlikely they would return to Bastide.
