Mako

Hailed by many restaurant critiques as “Serving some of the most exciting food in L.A.,” Mako refines it’s menu of small plates, designed for sharing. Mako calls this Ippin-Ryouri – meaning individual sized portions – allowing guests the freedom to tour the menu and build their own meal from several small tastes of Executive Chef Makoto Tanaka’s masterfully created contemporary Asian cuisine.

Is 50 minutes of a wait ok?

The food is great! But the wait TOO LONG! This was a graduation dinner for 20 people. I had waited for 8 years to celebrate the success of this venture and made reservations a week in advance. When I made reservations, the host directed me to call back to talk with the manager which I did. Discussed the reservations for 8:15pm and arranged for the whole party to sit at one table. I was told to preorder from the menu since it was a large group. Got there at 8:15pm, waited till 9:05 (50 minutes)to be allowed to the table. Three tables were set up to accomodate 5 people. I was told they would combine the tables after I had pointed out that I had made reservations for a group of 20 at one table. That never happened. That put a cramp in our celebration Then not enough plates or cutlery at the table, asked for it. Asked for the drink menu several times. The waitress who took over was good. The food was great. Had to keep asking for items though - dessert menu etc. One person's credit card was overcharged inspite of me clearly writing the amount on paper. I have never had anything bad to say about a restaurant before but this place is definitely not to celebrate a special occasion!
