Kate Mantilini

Kate Mantilini in Beverly Hills is not just another diner it is a local landmark. Proprietors Harry and Marilyn Lewis established Kate Mantilini in 1987 after selling their first foray into the restaurant business, Hamburger Hamlet, which the couple opened together in 1950. The menu at Kate Mantilini is extensive, with deli classics, gourmet diet fare, mountainous salads, and refined entrees like pork chops and frog legs. Open from early morning to late at night, and always packed with celebrities, wheeling-and-dealing producers, post-theater diners, and retirees, this upscale yet casual joint has something for everyone. Breakfast is served all day, so should patrons have a craving for the famous Gran Marnier French toast at 9:00 p.m., they need not hesitate to do so. For a slice of simple American diner fare in the heart of Beverly Hill, Kate Mantilini is the place to go.

    Shame on you!!

I have normally HAD nice experiences at Kate Mantalini...until today. I went alone at 2 p.m. the day after Thanksgiving. The place was nearly empty, maybe two tables full and some of the booths. I asked for a booth, and was very snottily told that they do not ALLOW less than 2 people in their booths. Oh please, if they were busy, I could understand, but not in the middle of the afternoon the day after a holiday with a nearly empty restaurant. Shame shame shame!! So if you're a single diner, don't waste your valuable time asking for a booth at Kate's...EVER, apparently.

    This place is going down

I used to love this place: friendly staff, good food...until a few days ago: On Friday July 4th 2008 I called Kate Mantellini at 6PM to ask until what time they were open for dinner that night. The answer was 10 PM. My friend and I arrived at 9.15 PM only to be told that they'd already closed (the kichen). We asked to speak with the manager. Manager SCOTT informed us that ADAM called, asked about the Sales that night and decided to close up at or before 9 PM. The fact that we were told the restaurant would still be open at 10 PM did not matter at all to Scott. His apologies were all AIR. He seemed very disinterested, did not even offer a drink on the house and left us sitting at the bar. He quickly returned to his chair and watched... TV. Our disappointed turned into anger and disgust: We did not order a thing, got up, walked right by Scott (He did not say 1 word) and walked out the door. What an arrogant place that restaurant has become. It is all about sales and NO LOYALTY to the residents/regular clients who walk over and wanna enjoy a late dinner. This place isn't anymore what it used to be.But hey, since the money comes pooring in, who cares about follow-up and KEEPING CUSTOMERS (happy)?! NOT KATE MANTELLINI! SHAME ON YOU KATE MANTELLINI!
